Prabhu BCA College
The Prabhu BCA College is a key initiative under the Disable Welfare Trust of India (DWTI), founded and operated by Dr. Kanubhai Tailor in Surat, Gujarat. This college offers a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) program and plays a vital role in providing higher education to students with physical disabilities (Divyangjans), as well as to other underprivileged youth from the region.
Key Features and Impact
Inclusive Education: The BCA College is designed to accommodate students with various physical challenges. It provides an accessible learning environment, ensuring that students who might otherwise face barriers in mainstream institutions can pursue their studies in information technology and computer science.
Free Education and Support: Like other DWTI initiatives, the BCA college offers education free of cost to Divyang students. In addition to tuition, the Trust often provides additional support including transportation, accommodation in hostels, books, uniforms, and meals to ensure no student’s education is hindered by financial or logistical barriers.
Skill Development: The curriculum not only covers core BCA subjects but also emphasizes practical skills, employability, and vocational training, preparing graduates for careers in IT, software, administration, or entrepreneurship.
Technology Resources: The institution is equipped with a modern computer lab. In 2021, the college also inaugurated a new ITC (Industrial Training Centre) computer laboratory to further enhance technical training resources available to students.
Career Advancement: Many graduates from the Prabhu BCA College have successfully pursued careers in various fields including government service, banking, IT, and private enterprise. DWTI's network and placement support have helped students secure jobs, internships, or, in select cases, international opportunities.
Community and Social Integration: By fostering a vibrant student community, the college helps disabled students build confidence, social skills, and leadership qualities. Alumni testimonials highlight the transformative power of this support—enabling Divyang students to not only become self-reliant but also to serve as role models in their communities.
Recognition and Partnerships: The college and DWTI have received recognition from government officials, industry leaders, and international dignitaries. The Trust works in partnership with donors and companies to provide infrastructure, scholarships, and technical equipment.
